REVIEW: Lasala Plaza hotel, Donostia San Sebastián

Hopefully you’ve read my post about 3 wonderful child-free days we spent in San Sebastián…. well I thought you might like to see where we stayed….

As this was a surprise/Christmas gift for the OH and was a very rare child-free break, I didn’t want to scrimp on accommodation. Most of the accommodation seemed to beautiful Airbnb apartments, but I thought a hotel would be a bit more of treat and when I came across the Lasala Plaza online, it was hard to find anything else to compare!

Arty interior decor

It looks great online but when we walked in I really fell in love with it – it’s in an old building, but only opened a year or two ago so it’s all very new… and soooooo stylish! The lobby area is beautiful, and all the other public areas like hallways and even the doors to the rooms all have very arty, stylish touches.

Spacious, stylish rooms

We walked into our room – and wow! Really decent size for a city hotel – a large bedroom, with a small separate seating area and a huge shower… and… I’ve never experienced this before… a loo that has lots of buttons! (to wash and dry!)

The best sleep…. ever!

Regardless of the style and mod cons, I’ve learnt the hard way that the most important thing about a hotel is the quality of sleep you get. I’m delighted to report that we had amazing sleep here (partly because we didn’t have our 2 boys crawling into our bed in the middle of the night but mostly…) because the king-size bed and pillows were really comfy, and really surprisingly we hardly heard any noise outside despite being in a really central area – so amazing window glazing etc!

Location, location, location

We really couldn’t have asked for a better location. Lasala Plaza is basically across the road from the seafront, so between the sea and the old gothic quarter. It took just minutes to get to all the Pintxos bars, and boutique shops etc.

Did I mention the rooftop swimming pool?!

It has a rooftop seating area where you can lounge/sunbathe/read/drink with THE most amazing views over the bay, it was a lovely place to chill out for a few hours after all the walking and eating we did! It even has a small swimming pool!

Anything else?

The Lasala Plaza has a really nice bar on the ground floor, we had a couple of drinks here and it was always really bustling – even with locals! We had a couple of Pinxtos dishes which were great but didn’t try the full meals or breakfast as there were so many places nearby to try! We were given a free welcome drink of champagne to use during our stay which I thought was a nice touch.

Any negatives?

I really can’t think of any negatives – really wonderful hotel in a perfect location, with amazing views from the rooftop and a great night’s sleep! This isn’t a budget option, but you really get what you pay for – we’d stay here again in a heartbeat!

Disclosure: I paid in full for our stay, I wasn’t asked to review the hotel and they didn’t know I would be writing a review.
